This year I am studying abstracted portraits and still-life works, monochromatic works and looking at how to incorporate printed textiles into my paintings. An age-old approach. I can't wait.
In the studio I'm stretching new swathes of linen over frames and dreaming up new colour palettes. Wonderful stuff.
Also a return to my textile design roots as I incorporate some of my original drawings and paintings into new pattern designs that will be printed on fabric and turned into who-knows-what. Something delicious. I'm thinking silk scarves and linen totes... Suggestions welcome!
I hope you enjoy browsing the website and viewing my paintings. Original artworks make original gifts! An artwork is a completely unique piece for your space and can be enjoyed for many years.
Hi All!
I'm happy to let all of you Canterbury folk know that I have a little exhibition lined-up for Christchurch at the end of this month. Opens October 26th 6pm.
I'm exhibiting alongside Christchurch artist, Harriet Millar at a private home on Papanui Road. The idea is that this is an informal setting to view the paintings, enjoy a glass wine and a catch up with friends. Please feel free to bring a friend and enjoy some art. All paintings for sale on the night and available to take home.
I will have some small paintings on ply, colour studies squares, as well as some larger landscapes on canvas. 10% of all proceeds go to the Uganda Orphanage Charity Fund.
Hope to see all of you locals there!
Georgie
HI Everyone,
"A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That science cannot overtake,
But human naturefeels.
It waits upon the lawn;
It shows the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope we know;
It almost speaks to me."
'A Light Exists in Spring' - Emily Dickinson
Not sure if it's the mad spring weather or just my creative evolution but change is definitely in the air.
I am researching abstract expressionism at present and feeling totally inspired by the movement that happened predominately in the 1950's. Willem De Kooning, Clifford Still, Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline....
I have begun to cut loose in my painting and mark-making, exploring expressionism further in my work.
I'm loving it!
This new work is entitled 'Uplift' and is available in the webshop
or via RED Art Gallery in Nelson.
Hellooo from the studio!
I'm keeping busy painting and preparing new work this week; happy to be exhibiting at The Coolstore Gallery at Mapua Wharf for the month of September.
http://thecoolstoregallery.co.nz/exhibitions/september-collaborative-2017-emma-francesca-georgina-hoby/
Lots of small painted colour studies, a selection of collages on paper and some large original landscape paintings on canvas.
Drop in to view these works, alongside those of the talented Dunedin artist, Emma Francesca.
Hello!
Four new small original paintings just released to the web shop.
Don't miss out on your chance to own a unique artwork, before they disappear to the galleries! These four paintings are available for a short time from the studio at the 'artist direct' price (ie. without gallery commission added).
Small artworks are perfect for brightening up mantlepieces and shelf displays, next to the bed, on bathroom walls or beside the kitchen window...
All works are in acrylic with oil and chalk pastel highlights.
Best wishes,
Georgie.
PS. If you would like any of these pieces framed-up in the signature Belle Hawk style, (narrow pale timber surround), just email me and I'm happy to arrange this.
A sneak preview of some of the work I've been producing for my upcoming art exhibition at Red Gallery and Design Store in Nelson in May. I'm having a wonderful time with this rich, warm new colour palette which is full of purples, pinks, terracotta and cooled with some clean greens. I've been to Morocco, Mexico and the Australian Outback and trekked the local hills to find the evening light - all without leaving the studio....
It's all coming together and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you - watch this space for details and exhibition date!
Go well,
Georgie.
